“To be a happy person, one has to drop all comparison. Drop all these stupid ideas of being superior and inferior. You are neither superior nor inferior. You are simply yourself! There exists no one like you, no one with whom you can be compared. Then, suddenly, you are at home.”—Osho (via yogachocolatelove)

i really want that decolonizing trans/gender book but not 12 dollars bad tho sorry boo
Same. It really bothers me when print copies are priced for cis/general readers because then trans girls can’t afford to have something to show their family and friends. Print is for other people. For me, there’s not even anything like this in Spanish that I can show my parents, so it’s just layers of access problems, which I don’t know how to fix.
I’m a little defensive about this because I’ve published a book and found out just how powerless you are when it comes to pricing. Like, I wanted to price my memoir at $15 but I would have only received ~$5 for every book I sold via Amazon (right now I get about ~$8/per book). The cost of production and the cut that Amazon takes is around $5-$10, depending on the size of your book and how many pages it has.
However, I’ve given my book out to free to trans feminine folks of color when I meet them in person or if they e-mail me for a .pdf copy. I know that b. binaohan is also giving out free .pdfs or e-books for trans feminine folks of color, so you should e-mail them if you want the book.
Please, also take into consideration that TWOC are usually poor and yeah, it sucks that the books we’re making aren’t accessible to everyone, but we’re also trying to feed ourselves and pay our rents. We’re doing our best to make it as accessible as possible but can’t afford to pay for the production and shipping to people.
As for having something in Spanish, it’d be great to have money or something to hire someone to translate books. But again, that requires a lot of money.
hey. i understand where you are coming from with this…
but. you know. i’m poor too. i literally went as low as i could while still getting a decent royalty.
and if ur a twoc/trans feminin poc, you can ask me for a free pdf.
(i know you both were talking about print and, yeah. with the way it is published i think the minimum price i’d have to set is like $8. if i was pricing this for a cis/white audience, i would have charged more. but i’m a little taken aback by the implicit suggestion here that my attempts to make a living from what was literally a year’s worth of effort and work on my part is ‘too much’.)
i’m hoping to maybe do a fundraiser to get the physical book into the hands of poor twoc/tfpoc, since i have a bunch of extra copies that i wanted to sell at the amc but didn’t arrive in time. but i also do not have money for shipping them out to everyone.
send me an ask and i’ll put you to the top of the list for when i have the time/energy to organize the fundraiser for this.
im a black transgender woman and all my coins have to go towards my transition. so really my post was just me prioritizing my medical transition over other things? notttt really an attack at all but shout out to yall for keeping up with people who want to read your works <3
i went to my dad to complain about apocalypse now, and he said first of all i dont want you to watch movies like that and second its based off a book that was set in Congo. so now i have to go do some investigative research.
