the thing with laverne cox not making the time top 100 list is the first time i heard that transgender people even existed i was 7 and it was from the news and the poor girl was murdered. my gender was so inherent to me that even though her story was tragic, she was surly misgendered on tv, and she was cut off from her family, i knew thats what i had to do even if it meant death. so growing up i always thought my story would end like hers. having laverne being hailed as one of the most important people in the world as a transgender black woman for all these little 7 year old girls to see, to know its possible to live be happy AND important as the person they are, would change their whole lives. knowing they wont have that breaks my heart.
